Portrait Session Prep Guide
Thank you for reserving your portrait session!
Here’s everything you need to know to be ready for your session.
It may seem like a lot, but have no fear.
Read this guide, leave the rest up to Sarah!
WHAT TO WEAR
• Wear something you feel great in and receive compliments on! High quality fabrics photograph well.
• Solid Colors and Long Sleeves put the focus on YOU. If you love a certain pattern and that’s your vibe, bring it. If you love your arms, show them off! Jewel tones look beautiful, as does classic black or white.
• Fitted jackets give a great look if you’re coming in for a modern headshot.
• If you’re with a family member, make sure the tones of your clothes coordinate. Think the same beiges or creams together, or different shades of rust and medium tones look beautiful. Avoid muted pastels or neon bright colors as they do not photograph well.
• If you are unsure, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Sarah! 503-828-7191 or sarah@watersphotographs.com.
THE WEEK BEFORE and DAY OF SESSION
• Start getting into a good skin exfoliation and moisturizing routine if you aren’t already. Time to pamper your skin! Do a light exfoliation on your face even if it’s with a washcloth.
• DRINK LOTS OF WATER! I can’t tell you how much of a difference this makes. Drink 1 Gallon a day. Let’s get your skin glowing! Limit Salty and Sugary foods.
DAY OF YOUR SESSION
• IF you are having makeup and/or hair done before your session, please arrive ready to go!
• IF you are doing your own make-up, please stay away from heavy eye liner. It can distract and often causes your eyes to disappear in photos.
• Use clear deodorant and moisturize your body before your session.
• Remember to drink lots of water the day before, leave out salty foods and alcohol and get a good night’s sleep! This will ensure your look refreshed for your portrait session.
HANDS FEET HAIR & EYES
• If you normally do your nails, get a manicure and pedicure before your session (or DIY at home). Your hands and feet will show in many of your images and you’ll definitely want your nails to look amazing!
• Having freshly trimmed and colored hair and eyebrows done (if that is something you already do) will make you feel extra beautiful during your session!
SPRAY TANS AND TAN LINES
For your session, we do not recommend a spray tan if you haven’t had one done before as it will affect how your skin tone will photograph. Think Oompa Loompas!
Also, it’s best to stay out of the sun to avoid any burns before your session.
Retouching of streaks, tan lines and sunburns is not included in the retouching but available for an extra charge.
